Reports of car on fire lead to drunk driving charges for 1

Upon receiving reports of a possibly impaired driver, authorities are obligated to follow up and investigate the situation. Should the occupants of the vehicle be standing outside when police arrive, determining who was behind the wheel can be a challenging task. A recent incident in which a vehicle reportedly erupted in flames has left a 36-year-old woman facing drunk driving charges in Wisconsin.

Law enforcement agents say the incident took place after they received reports of a car that had caught fire on the off-ramp of a local highway. Upon arriving at the location, they claim to have located a vehicle with substantial damage to its front end and a cracked windshield. Although the vehicle was reportedly unoccupied at the time, they claim that a witness informed them the two occupants had walked to a nearby parking lot.

Police were able to locate the two soon thereafter and advised that they appeared to be involved in an altercation. They claim that a woman admitted to being the driver of the car, and after she allegedly began to exhibit signs of impairment, field sobriety tests were initiated. After a subsequent breath test purportedly indicated her blood alcohol content to be .25, she was placed under arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.

When being accused of drunk driving, individuals in Wisconsin may find it beneficial to understand how their responses during this period could influence the subsequent process. Since the criminal justice system can be complex, a person could benefit from speaking to an experienced attorney early on for advice. An attorney can help a client gain a better understanding of what to expect from the process and provide guidance on how to make informed decisions about his or her case.
