1 accused of drunk driving following hit-and-run accident

When a motor vehicle accident occurs, law enforcement agents may be tasked with investigating the incident and determining what took place. Should one driver choose to leave the scene, police may attempt to use any evidence left behind to locate the vehicle and its driver. A recent incident in which authorities claim to have located a license plate at the site of a hit-and-run crash has left a 62-year-old man in Wisconsin facing drunk driving charges.

Authorities say they responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash on a recent Monday evening. Upon arriving at the location, they claim to have found that a section of a vehicle's front bumper had been left behind. They say they were able to use the license plate attached to the bumper to identify the vehicle and assert they were able to locate the vehicle and its owner soon thereafter.

Upon speaking with the driver, police claim that he admitted to consuming alcohol prior to operating the vehicle. After a breath test allegedly indicated his blood alcohol content to be well above the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle, he was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired. According to reports, the man has nine previous drunk driving offenses on record, and a conviction for a 10th offense would carry severe consequences.

Those who face felony drunk driving charges may wish to know more about how best to approach the situation, but they might be uncertain where to turn for advice. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can evaluate the charges and evidence against a person in Wisconsin and provide guidance in making informed decisions about the situation. If a conviction cannot be avoided, an attorney can assist in forming a strategy to pursue the most favorable outcome possible during subsequent legal proceedings.
