Report of Improper Lane Control Leads to Drunk Driving Charges

|

There could be a multitude of scenarios in which a person may experience difficulty maintaining proper lane control while driving. A moment of distraction or complications from a medical condition can prompt similar results, and the behavior exhibited in a similar situation can appear suspicious in nature. Unfortunately, a recent incident in which witnesses claim a driver was weaving in and out of lanes has left a Wisconsin man accused of drunk driving.

At around 6:30 p.m. on a recent Sunday, authorities claim to have received reports of a driver that was drifting in and out of the lanes of traffic. According to police, one witness also claimed the vehicle had struck a nearby utility pole and kept going. Police say they were able to locate the vehicle soon thereafter and initiate a traffic stop, which reportedly led to the performance of field sobriety tests.

Following the traffic stop, the man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. While police advised that he was taken to a hospital for a blood draw prior to being taken into custody, the results of subsequent chemical tests were not provided. While this would reportedly be his first drunk driving offense if a conviction is obtained, even a first offense can carry severe consequences.

Those who stand accused of drunk driving may face a variety of difficult decisions throughout the process, each of which could have a substantial impact on their lives. For guidance on making informed decisions about one's case, a person in Wisconsin could benefit from consulting with a defense attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can work to protect a client's legal rights and assist him or her in preparing to pursue the best outcome possible during court proceedings.
