Birthday Celebration Leaves 1 Accused of Drunk Driving

For many individuals, a birthday is a time to get together with family and friends and celebrate another year of life. The manner in which a birthday is celebrated may vary from person to person, as each individual may have his or her own preferred way of observing the occasion. Unfortunately, a recent birthday celebration has left a 53-year-old man in Wisconsin facing drunk driving charges.

Law enforcement agents assert the incident took place on a recent Wednesday after they received a complaint from an employee at a local bar. They claim the employee informed them that a woman at the bar requested help. The bartender advised that the woman left with a man soon thereafter, and upon arriving at the scene, police proceeded to initiate a traffic stop.

During the traffic stop, authorities say they requested that the driver perform field sobriety tests, the results of which allegedly indicated the presence of impairment. He was taken into custody soon thereafter and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and disorderly conduct. This would reportedly be his fifth offense for drunk driving if a conviction is obtained.

In Wisconsin, a fifth or higher offense for drunk driving is a felony, and the penalties for a conviction for felony charges can have a substantial impact on a person's future. Those who face similar charges could benefit from speaking with an attorney early on for advice in understanding the consequences they might face. An attorney can help a client make informed decisions about his or her case and assist in pursuing the best outcome achievable during subsequent court proceedings.
