1 Accused of Drunk Driving After Allegedly Fleeing Scene of Crash

When a motor vehicle accident takes place, it is generally advisable to remain at the scene. Should a driver leave the scene of a collision, authorities may be more inclined to suspect the presence of unlawful behavior. A 36-year-old man has been arrested and accused of drunk driving after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit after leaving the scene of a collision in Wisconsin.

Authorities assert the incident began when they received reports of a driver who had struck multiple vehicles and proceeded to flee the scene of the accident. According to reports, police were able to locate the vehicle soon thereafter, but say the driver refused to comply with their attempts to initiate a traffic stop. After a short high-speed pursuit, law enforcement agents say they were able to bring the vehicle to a halt with the use of tire deflation devices.

Upon approaching the driver, authorities assert that he was exhibiting signs of impairment, and a subsequent breath test allegedly indicated his blood alcohol content to be well over the legal limit. He was arrested soon thereafter and accused of driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities also advised that a young child was in the vehicle during this period, and he was released into the custody of Child Protective Services.

When facing drunk driving charges, many individuals may lack the necessary legal experience to know how to respond to the situation. Those who face similar circumstances may find it beneficial to seek counsel from an attorney early on, and doing so could help them gain a better understanding of what to expect moving forward. An attorney in Wisconsin can advise a client of the potential consequences he or she may face and assist in pursuing the most favorable outcome achievable during subsequent court proceedings.
