Fatal accident leads to DUI charges for Wisconsin woman

With less in the way of protective barriers, motorcyclists in Wisconsin and across the country may face numerous dangers while out on the road. Collisions involving motorcycles are often catastrophic in nature, each of which could end in serious injuries to those involved, or worse. Being involved in a fatal accident is stressful enough on its own, but if the other party is suspected of DUI, the potential consequences of a conviction would be severe.

According to reports, a recent accident under similar circumstances has claimed the life of a motorcyclist. Police asserts that a 29-year-old woman crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the man, who was subsequently airlifted to a medical facility for treatment. Unfortunately, emergency responders say the man never made it to the hospital, but died while in transit.

Police claim the woman admitted fault in the accident, and requested to be taken into custody. They also assert that test results indicated her blood alcohol content to be .30, which is well over the legal limit to operate a vehicle. Reportedly, she has two previous OWI convictions on record, and is facing multiple charges in relation to the incident, including a third drunk driving offense.

The penalties for a DUI increase in severity with each successive conviction, and are even more serious if an accident is involved, especially one that leads to a death. When facing similar charges, a person in Wisconsin might find it advisable to seek assistance early in the process for advice on how to proceed. A defense attorney can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client, and if a conviction cannot be avoided, assist in pursuing a reduced sentence during legal proceedings.
