Drunk Driving Suspected in Wisconsin Car Accident

Many drivers have likely had a moment when they were unable to stop in time. For example, an animal runs into the road, and a driver is unable to avoid a collision. Unfortunately, police believe that a recent accident in which a woman was allegedly unable to avoid hitting a pedestrian was caused by speeding. Wisconsin police have also accused the woman of drunk driving.

The accident happened in the early morning hours of a day in February. According to reports, surveillance footage shows that the victim had just stolen recycling bins from a nearby pharmacy and was attempting to cross the road. Unfortunately, a sports utility vehicle driven by a 26-year-old woman reportedly struck him.

Police say that when they arrived at the scene, the man was lying on the ground, unresponsive and not breathing. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman now faces multiple charges stemming from the incident, including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Police say her blood alcohol content was over the legal limit and that she was speeding at the time of the collision.

The drunk driving allegations and other charges against the Wisconsin woman are serious, and she could spend a significant period of time in prison if convicted. Unfortunately, people charged with crimes may be unaware of the different choices they have in terms of responding to such charges. While fighting the charges in court may be the best option for some, accepting a plea deal may be more appropriate for others. An attorney with experience regarding such cases can help his or her clients fully understand the options available to them and prepare them to make informed decisions.
