Wisconsin man charged with DUI after motorcycle crash

A man who has been charged some nine times with drunk driving has been charged again following a motorcycle accident, according to local sources. The 52-year-old Wisconsin man was set to return to court on Sept. 3 to face the DUI charge stemming from the Aug. 20 accident. His bond was set at $25,000, and it is unclear whether he remains in police custody at this time.

According to the complaint, around 3 a.m. the morning of Aug. 20, police in Fox Crossing discovered an abandoned motorcycle that was dug into a pile of dirt as though the driver had been attempting to mount the curb. The accused man was found in a ditch nearby and told police someone else was driving the motorcycle. Police said a breath test administered on the scene returned a 0.135 blood alcohol level, well above the legal limit of .08.

The man had an absolute sobriety order as a result of his other nine DUI convictions. While he maintained an occupational driver's license, this event took place outside work hours. Police say conversations with witnesses have led them to believe the man may have purchased the motorcycle to circumvent a breath lock installed on his primary vehicle.

When someone is charged with a 10th DUI, it is fair to say that individual may have a problem with alcohol. Alcoholism, which affects many Wisconsin residents, is a serious disease that may be given consideration in a courtroom setting. The man's defense attorney may consider a plea bargain based upon mandatory court-ordered rehabilitation as part of an effort to build an effective defense against the charges.
