Pedestrian accident leads to drunk driving charges in Wisconsin

When walking in traffic, pedestrians may find it helpful to find ways to increase their visibility, especially at night. Drivers who travel at night may find it difficult to spot a person walking near or on the road, and accidents involving pedestrians can have disastrous results. An incident in which a driver allegedly struck and injured another person in Wisconsin has left a 20-year-old man facing numerous charges, including a drunk driving offense.

The incident is said to have taken place on a recent Wednesday at around 10 p.m. Law enforcement agents received reports from witnesses about an accident in which a vehicle had struck a pedestrian before fleeing the scene. Upon arriving at the location, they say they found the man lying in the road with serious injuries, and he was subsequently transported to a nearby medical facility.

After initiating an investigation into the incident, police claim to have received reports of a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the incident. They located the vehicle shortly thereafter and assert that the driver appeared to be exhibiting signs of impairment. After results from a breath test allegedly indicated his blood alcohol content to be more than two times the legal limit, he was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.

The penalties for a conviction for drunk driving are serious and may only increase in severity when an accident involving injuries occurs. Those who face similar charges could benefit from speaking with an attorney as soon as possible for guidance in understanding the consequences they might face and advice on all their available options. An attorney can examine the circumstances a client in Wisconsin is facing and assist him or her in pursuing the best outcome achievable during subsequent court proceedings.
