Traffic stop leaves 1 facing felony drunk driving charges

Many individuals may be aware of the stress involved with looking in the rear-view mirror and seeing red flashing lights. Even if a traffic stop involves little more than a warning for a burnt-out headlight, the process can still be an intimidating experience. Unfortunately, a recent traffic stop in Wisconsin has left a 38-year-old man accused of drunk driving with a minor in the vehicle.

Law enforcement agents initiated the traffic stop at around 6 p.m. on a recent Thursday. Although many of the details concerning what led to the stop remain unclear, upon approaching the driver, police claim to have noticed he was exhibiting signs of impairment. After allegedly failing to perform field sobriety tests in a satisfactory manner, a breath test was conducted.

Police claim that the subsequent breath test indicated the driver's blood alcohol content to be .14, which is well over the legal limit to operate a vehicle. He was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving soon thereafter. Authorities also assert that a 10-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time, and the child was released into the custody of a family member.

The man reportedly faces felony charges for drunk driving with a minor in the vehicle. With the potential gravity of a conviction for similar offenses, those who face felony charges may benefit from preparing for what comes next by focusing on their defense with guidance from an attorney. An attorney can help a client in Wisconsin better prepare to make informed choices regarding his or her case during subsequent court proceedings.
