Man faces fourth drunk driving offense in Wisconsin

Drowsy or fatigued driving is a major concern for many individuals. There are a multitude of scenarios that can cause a person to be more susceptible to fatigue while operating a motor vehicle, such as extended periods on the road or long hours at work, or even certain medical conditions. A 34-year-old man has been accused of drunk driving after police allegedly found him asleep while behind the wheel of a running car in Wisconsin.

According to reports, authorities say the incident began when they located a vehicle that had drifted off the side of a local interstate. Upon approaching the driver, they claim to have found the man asleep behind the wheel. After waking him up, they say he was exhibiting sings of impairment and requested that he perform field sobriety tests soon thereafter.

After a breath test allegedly indicated his blood-alcohol content to be over the legal limit to drive, he was placed under arrest and taken to a nearby medical facility for further testing. While at the facility, police claim the man refused to adhere to toxicology tests and state that a warrant was obtained to perform a legal blood draw. He was subsequently charged with drunk driving, which would reportedly be his fourth offense if a conviction is obtained.

A fourth offense for drunk driving carries penalties that could have a disastrous impact on a person's future. Those who face similar charges may wish to protect against the undesirable consequences a conviction can bring, and they could choose to speak with an experienced attorney for guidance on their available options. An attorney can help a client in Wisconsin better understand what is at stake and provide advice in making informed decisions concerning his or her case.
