Fatal motorcycle accident leaves man accused of drunk driving

Being involved in a motorcycle accident can be a scary experience. With less in the way of protective barriers to shield a person from hitting the pavement, these incidents can also be exceedingly dangerous. Unfortunately, a recent accident involving a motorcycle and bicycle in Wisconsin has claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman and left a 22-year-old man facing accusations of drunk driving.

Law enforcement agents advised that they received reports of the accident on a recent Sunday. Upon arriving at the scene, they claim to have discovered that a motorcycle had struck a 13-year-old boy who was riding his bike at an intersection. The boy reportedly suffered major injuries in the accident, and police also suggest that a passenger on the motorcycle was thrown from the bike in the process and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities located the driver of the motorcycle soon thereafter, and say that he denied drinking alcohol before riding the bike. However, they claim that a subsequent test indicated his blood alcohol content to be well over the legal limit. He was placed under arrest soon thereafter, and he is reportedly facing as many as seven charges in relation to the incident.

The penalties for a conviction for drunk driving charges may increase in severity in the presence of a collision, especially one that turns fatal. Those who face charges under similar circumstances may benefit from speaking with a defense attorney as soon as the charges are filed against them. An attorney can help a client in Wisconsin gain a better understanding of the consequences he or she may face, and if a conviction cannot be avoided, assist in pursuing the best outcome achievable during court proceedings.
