1 facing drunk driving charges following incident at intersection

With the inherent reduction in visibility associated with driving at night, those who travel during this time may have more difficulty spotting a traffic sign until it is too late. Unfortunately, there could be consequences to running through a stop sign, and even if a collision doesn't occur, a similar incident could leave a person facing criminal allegations. A woman has been accused of drunk driving after allegedly running a stop sign and almost hitting a police car in Wisconsin.

According to police, the incident took place just after 2 a.m. on a recent Sunday as two officers came to a halt at a stop sign. While waiting at the intersection, they claim that a woman ran through the stop sign and came close to striking the squad car head-on. After attempting to initiate a traffic stop, police assert that she tried to flee the scene before coming to a stop in a nearby driveway and exiting her vehicle.

Upon being questioned by authorities, the woman allegedly had trouble following commands and became uncooperative. She was taken into custody soon thereafter on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. In addition to an OWI, she also faces charges for resisting arrest and battery.

Many of the details as to how authorities came to believe the woman was intoxicated at the time remain unclear. Those who are accused of drunk driving under similar circumstances may be uncertain how best to respond to the situation, and they could find it advisable to seek guidance from an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can inform a client in Wisconsin of the potential consequences he or she may face and provide guidance on the best course of action to take during court proceedings.
