Death of pedestrian leads to drunk driving charges for 1

Being accused of driving under the influence of alcohol can be a stressful and intimidating process. The penalties for a drunk driving conviction are serious, and may only increase in severity if an accident occurs, especially one resulting in death. A 51-year-old man has been taken into custody and is facing numerous charges in relation to his alleged involvement in a fatal pedestrian accident in Wisconsin.

Authorities apparently received reports of a pedestrian-related accident just before 2 a.m. on a recent Saturday. After arriving at the scene, they assert that a witness saw a man traveling within the lines of a crosswalk when he was suddenly struck by a vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and upon being questioned, the driver stated that he didn't see the man until it was too late to prevent a collision.

While speaking with the driver, authorities claim that he admitted to drinking alcohol before operating the vehicle. They also assert that he was exhibiting signs of intoxication, and that his performance of field sobriety tests indicated impairment. However, the man reportedly submitted to a breath test, which indicated his blood alcohol content to be within the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

With the potential gravity of a drunk driving conviction looming overhead, those who face similar charges could choose to prepare for what comes next by focusing on their defense. Since this can be complex, a person could seek guidance from an attorney for assistance in navigating the process. An attorney can provide a client in Wisconsin with advice on making informed decisions and subsequently assist in pursuing the best outcome possible given the situation.
