Drunk driving charges filed against Wisconsin woman

In recent years, there has been an increased effort in notifying the general public about the potential consequences of drinking and driving. While the consequences of such action can be extreme, these educational efforts can make people jump to conclusions about a person. A woman in Wisconsin was recently arrested on drunk driving charges after her boyfriend contacted police, claiming she was in her vehicle after she consumed alcohol.

Police received a call from the 43-year-old woman's boyfriend around noon one day in early December. He claimed that the woman was in a car parked in a field across the street from his house. According to the boyfriend's report to police, the woman was sleeping in the vehicle. While he claimed that the car was not running, the key was allegedly in the ignition.

When police arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered the woman in a fishing shanty near the area. Police claim she reported that she had driven the vehicle in the field but not on the road. Tests allegedly revealed that the woman's blood alcohol content was significantly over the legal limit. She was arrested and now faces drunk driving charges for the fifth time. If convicted of the charges against her, she could spend up to 10 years in prison.

Because of the severity of the potential consequences of a conviction of the drunk driving charges she faces, the woman will likely want to carefully consider her legal options. She must choose whether to fight the charges in court or accept a plea deal for a lesser sentence. Because many people in Wisconsin are unprepared to make such decisions on their own, they often seek the guidance of an experienced criminal defense attorney.
